Ndoa n kuvumilia(marriage is all about perseverance), a common phrase used to advice someone who is newly married and who is planning to or who wants to leave their marriage.
This phrase cuts across different cultures and communities. But to what extent is it true and to which is it destroying people’s lives.
I believe that this life is a gift and it only comes ones, so there no rehearsal, when a day passes, it passes and you can never get it back again.
So why should anybody use such a terminology as kuvumilia. Are you meant to vumilia everything? I get it, I know one of the virtues that we are supposed to have is perseverance, but to what extent should we persevere? Should one persevere in a marriage where the husband or wife treats them like trash because they don’t have money? Should someone persevere in a marriage where her husband gets a kid outside because she can’t get children?
Personally I think we have the power of choice, it’s our choice to choose what makes us happy and drop what doesn’t. So I urge everyone reading this to be vigilant, put your self first, protect your happiness and fulfillment at all costs because there is no rehearsal in this life, so why don’t you choose to be happy.
